Football consists of 5 main moments that are a great starting point for analysis and of opponents and your team will play. These moments also need then to be adapted to the players available in your squad.

Ball Possession (BP) – we have the ball and this is a closer look on how we build up from the goalkeeper through our thirds to chance creation and finishing.

Ball Possession to Ball Possession Opposition (BP to BPO) – Counter attack against, we have the ball and we lose it, what’s the plan next?, what part of the pitch did they win it?, what does the team do? Does it pressure the opponents to win back quickly or delay the opponents and retreat?

Ball Possession Opposition (BPO) – they have the ball with their Goalkeeper and are looking to build up through the thirds. What do we do? This can depend on our teams strengths and weaknesses and also the opponents strengths and weaknesses.

Ball Possession Opposition to Ball Possession (BPO to BP) – Counter Attack for, they had the ball and we win it back. Considerations are the part of the pitch we win the ball back, what’s our plan? Do we quickly attack the opponent or do we slow down and get control of the game?

Set Pieces (Corners, free kicks, for and Against) – How do the opponents defend and attack set pieces, what are their strengths and weaknesses? How do we defend and attack set pieces? How do we adjust and adapt our set pieces for each game.
